Partnering with PKBM to eradicate illiteracy
Indomining works together with community education development program PKBM (Program Pengembangan Pendidikan Masyarakat) to eradicate illiteracy in the community around the Company’s mine site. Literacy training has been held for local residents who cannot read, with the goal of helping the pass the national Package A, B and C requirements (kejar Paket A, B & C). Many of these residents are older men and women who, as a result of Indomining’s efforts, are now able to read at a simple level.

School Support & Scholarship
Indomining has renovated school facilities and buildings. The Company has also provided a number of scholarships to promising students to further their studies.

Nutrition for Kids
Indomining makes regular weekly supplements of nutritious foods for young children through primary schools in our vicinity, to ensure proper nutrition and a healthy start in life.

Public Infrastructure
As part of Indomining’s commitment to share its gains with the local community, it has undertaken a number of public infrastructure improvements including maintenance of ditches and drains in Sanga-Sanga village, the cementing of a 1.5km-long public road, and public road upgrades.

Regreening & Cassava Plantations
Indomining is engages in regreening activities in all mined-out sites, in which we replant mined-out areas with indigenous varieties of plants and trees that have been carefully nurtured in the Indomining nursery.
In 2011 trials of giant cassava began in mined out areas. Giant cassava, which can grow up to 75kg, is particularly suited to the production of bio-ethanol, a fossil fuel substitute that can be used for a variety of local uses. In doing so, Indomining works together with local farmers to cultivate the cassava, giving them valuable skills.

Bioethanol Factory
In order to process the giant cassava produced in mined out areas, Indomining built an onsite factory for the conversion of cassava into bio-ethanol, with a production capacity of 500 liters/hour. The resulting fuel can be used locally, replacing non-eco friendly fossil fuels and providing local farmers of the giant cassava with employment and income.
Community Work Training
Apart from teaching cassava planting skills to farmers, Indomining also helps train local community residents in various skills such as animal breeding, fishery, agriculture, and home industries.

Religious activities
Religious activities were held together with the community such as the animal sacrifices for Ramadhan.
